Syllabus

This course will cover the basics of Phylogenetic Analysis, both theoretical and practical aspects.

The course will be discussion based with active participation required. 

A general outline (subject to change):

- Introduction and Biology Basics

- Multiple Alignment

- Models of Evolution

- Distance methods

- Character methods

- Phylogenomics

There will be a short weekly assignment which will be the basis of the next weeks discussion.

This is a half semester course, starting at the end of November.

The course is intended for second year Msc students and above.

 

 

Learning Outcomes

Students who complete the course should have a deeper understanding of the various theories underlying phylogenetic analysis, as well as practical approaches to performing the analysis independently.
