Syllabus

The course will present theoretical and practical considerations in designing and using assessments for learning and teaching. It will elaborate on aligning assessments with learning goals,  different kinds of assessment items and how to effectively administrate and score assessments. It will then suggest ways in which assessments may influence students' behavior and the differences between evaluating students and evaluating teachers. The final assignment in the course is to develop an assessment task for secondary school students, to implement it in class, to analyze the results and to write it up in a final paper.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course- students should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of theoretical and practical considerations in designing and using assessments of learning.
  2. Recognize and discuss different kinds of students characteristics that can be assessed: knowledge, self-efficacy, group work etc .
  3. Identify and characterize difficulty levels of assessment items 
  4. Align assessments with learning goals, use different kinds of assessments, effectively administrate and score assessments items.
  5. Design a compound assessment task for secondary school Science or Mathematics students,  implement in class with pupils, analyze results and present in the course disciplinary work groups.
