This interactive course will provide an overview to our current understanding of the molecular mechanism underlying neuronal development with specific emphasis on examples from fruit flies and mammals. Topics that will be covered include neuronal induction, cell fate determination, cell-cell interactions, neuronal migration, axon guidance, target selection, myelination, neuronal remodeling, synaptic development and competition, neurodegeneration and regeneration.
The course is based on frontal lectures and a seminar. Grades will be based on the seminar (80%) and participation and discussion in the classes (20%).
