Syllabus
This is the first course in a sequence of three, in which students are learning toward their final project in the program. During the course students are introduced to the qualitative research paradigm and action research. They also choose a common skill (graph analysis, asking research questions, controlling variables) which they will explore in their own class using research tools that will be introduced during the course (diagnostic questionnaire, performance interview).
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:
- Explain in their own words the philosophy of the qualitative research paradigm.
- Apply research tools from the literature to analyze their own teaching or their students learning.
- Explain in their own words research articles they have read throughout the semester.
- Formulate a research question which includes measurable variables.
- Analyze data collected through qualitative evaluation tools.
- Write a discussion including a reflection on how the outcome of the data may influence their future teaching.
Reading List
Each student will receive individual list of suggested reading according to the subject of their project.
