The animal laboratory course comprises on two parts, both are mandatory:

Syllabus

this is a all year long course, consist of an online program (AALAS learning library) and hands on lab with one of the veterinarians. you can enroll at any time of the year. 

Online Course: containing 7 modules

  1. Working with the IACUC
  2. Working with the Laboratory mouse
  3. Working with the Laboratory rat
  4. Design and statistical analysis of laboratory animal studies
  5. Occupational health and safety in the care and use of research animals
  6. Genetics and breeding colony management
  7. Husbandry

 

Frontal lab day

working with laboratory mice- handling and restraining frequently used injections, blood collection and short pathology lab.

Final exam

33 multiple choice questions  1 hour.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:

  1. Explain principles in laboratory animals' medicine.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency advanced methodology and experimental approaches in animals' experimentation.
  3. Perform commonly used procedures in different species as well as a postmortem dissection.
