Syllabus

This is the second course in a sequence of three, in which students learn toward their final project in the program. During the course, students are introduced to the qualitative research paradigm and action research. Students experience the analysis of a learning process during an authentic classroom conversation, develop a coding scheme, and arrive at conclusions.  They are introduced to research tools (diagnostic questionnaire, performance interview, concept mapping), and utilize them to formulate research questions which they will explore in their own action research, and establish their research design.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:

  1. Explain in their own words the philosophy of the qualitative research paradigm.
  2. Explain in their own words research articles they have read throughout the semester.
  3. Formulate a research question that includes measurable variables.
  4. Design a research plan of the teaching unit and learning materials they developed in the first course.
  5. Analyze data collected through qualitative evaluation tools.

Reading List

Each student will receive individual list of suggested reading according to the subject of their project.
