Syllabus

This is the second course in a sequence of three, in which students are learning towards their final project in the program.

The students worked individually on developing assessment tools (diagnostic questions, performance interview) addressing a learning skill (graph analysis, asking research questions, controlling variables, integrating texts) that they encounter during their practices as junior and high school biology teachers. Development stemmed from literature based theoretical frameworks, research tools (i.e. conversation analysis, questionnaires, interviews), and literature based criteria.

During the second course, the development of the assessment tool is followed by implementation of the tool and data on the performance of the high school students will be collected and used for quantitative and/or qualitative research approaches. In addition to the main skill, another construct (self-regulated learning) will be added to the analysis of high school students performances. During the course, participants share their projects with the group and receive constructive feedback that prepares for the final third course and towards the final project.

Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to implement the assessment tool that they developed and collect the data needed for their research, while combining two constructs: the performance of the learning skill and monitoring self-regulated learning of their students while performing it. Students will also begin to analyze their data.
