  2. The electric potential
  3. Electric fields around conductors
  4. Electric currents, electric conductance, and electric circuits 
  5. The magnetic field and electromagnetic induction
  6. Maxwell's equations 
  7. Electromagnetic waves
  8. Electric and magnetic fields in matter

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to:

  1. Understand the basic rules of forces between electric charges and currents
  2. Know how to apply these rules to electric circuits
  3. Understand the relation between moving charges and magnetic fields
  4. Understand how Maxwell's equations arise from generalizations of experimental observations and more specific rules for particular cases.
  5. See how Maxwell's equations predict electromagnetic waves 
  6. Understand the effect of dielectric and diamagnetic materials on electric and magnetic fields.
