Participants will get acquainted with educational research and its implications to learning and teaching regarding problem solving, modeling, and experimental inquiry in the physics classroom. They will Implement in their classes research based instructional strategies intended to improve students' problem solving, modeling, and inquiry practices and will study the influence of these strategies on their students' learning.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course students should be able to:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the research literature about the practices of problem solving, modeling, and experimental inquiry in the physics classroom.
- Explicate in terms of the research literature their learning goals regarding the above practices.
- Examine their current instruction and their students' orientation towards in light of the learning goals.
- Demonstrate new, research based, instructional strategies to develop the above practices, implement them in their classes and examine their influence on their students' learning.
