Syllabus
This course will bridge the gap between research in science education and the classroom practices of biology teachers.
The course will focus on:
- Teacher Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK),
- Constructing and using big ideas to improve teaching and learning,
- Scientific inquiry and practices: Definitions and the inquiry cycle,
- Students' misconceptions and alternative conceptions
- Exploring models in the biology classroom
- Assessment in Biology Teaching
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to
- Bridge the gap between research in science education and biology teachers' classroom practices
- Students will function as a supportive community of colleagues, engaging in collaborative thinking and providing feedback during meetings
