Syllabus

This course will bridge the gap between research in science education and the classroom practices of biology teachers.

The course will focus on:

  1. Teacher Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK),
  2. Constructing and using big ideas to improve teaching and learning,
  3. Scientific inquiry and practices:  Definitions and the inquiry cycle,
  4. Students' misconceptions and alternative conceptions
  5. Exploring models in the biology classroom
  6. Assessment in Biology Teaching

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to

  • Bridge the gap between research in science education and biology teachers' classroom practices
  • Students will function as a supportive community of colleagues, engaging in collaborative thinking and providing feedback during meetings
