Syllabus

This course introduces the theory of vector bundles over topological spaces and smooth manifolds, emphasising their classification. We then develop topological K-theory as a generalised cohomology theory arising from vector bundles, exploring some of its properties. The course concludes with applications in geometry and topology.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to compute and apply characteristic classes to study vector bundles and their topological properties, and perform elementary computations in K-theory.
