Syllabus

The general purpose of the workshop is to promote a dignified learning environment at the Weizmann Institute of Science devoid of sexual harassment and prejudicial treatment on the grounds of sexual harassment and to raise the awareness towards the prevention of sexual harassment by:

  • Conveying the Weizmann Institute and Feinberg’s zero tolerance policy towards sexual harassment or prejudicial treatment.
  • Giving an overview on the sexual harassment phenomena in general and specifically in the academic environment. 
  • Clarifying that an act of sexual harassment and prejudicial treatment constitute a severe disciplinary offense.
  • Educating Feinberg’s students and Post-Docs what are the various kinds of behaviors that constitute sexual harassment and prejudicial treatment under the law. 
  • Raising the awareness to “grey areas” which not necessarily constitute sexual harassment, but are not in line with a respectful environment and thus should be avoided.
  • Raising the awareness to power / authority relations in the context of sexual harassment and consensual relations. 
  • Acquainting Feinberg students and Post-Docs with the harassed person’s rights under the law.  
  • Acquainting Feinberg students and Post-Docs with the Commissioner for the prevention of sexual harassment, her role, and the procedure of handling complaints regarding sexual harassment or prejudicial treatment on the grounds of sexual harassment. 

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the workshop students will be able to:

  1. Discuss the essence of the sexual harassment phenomena in general and specifically in the academic environment. 
  2. Describe the various kinds of behaviors that constitute sexual harassment and prejudicial treatment under the law. 
  3. Show awareness to “grey areas” which not necessarily constitute sexual harassment, but are not in line with a respectful environment and thus should be avoided.
  4. Demonstrate understanding of power / authority relations in the context of sexual harassment and consensual relations. 
  5. Demonstrate knowledge of  the harassed person’s rights under the law.  
  6. Demonstrate acquaintance with the role of the Commissioner for the prevention of sexual harassment at the WIS, and with the procedure of handling complaints regarding sexual harassment or prejudicial treatment on the grounds of sexual harassment.
