Syllabus

Astrophysical applications of GR, including:

1. Geodesics of the Schwarzschild metric; precession of mercury.

2. Bending of light, and some aspects of gravitational lensing; shadow of a black hole; lensing time-delay.

3. Gravitational radiation, and its experimental detection.

Learning Outcomes

We aim to provide tools that will enable students to follow current observational manifestations of GR-related effects in astrophysics.
