Syllabus

Course Description:

 

  1. Nuclei - introductory review.

 

  1. Elements of the scattering theory - Lippman-Schwinger equation, inelastic scattering, Born approximation,

 

  1. using (electron, neutron, light) elastic and inelastic scattering to probe (nuclear, atomic, molecular) structure.

 

  1. Nuclear structure models -

          Fermi gas, liquid drop, independent particles, shell model.

          Collective nuclear phenomena - rotations, vibrations

 

  1. Nuclear decay processes - alpha, beta, gamma, fission, fusion

 

  1. Nuclear reactions – direct  and compound.

 

  1. Summary

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course students should be able to gain knowledge in basics of modern Nuclear Physics, scattering theory, decays, physics of fission and fusion, collective motion, shell structure
